You Are Flawless

By: Lisa Dzikowski

You are flawless. Did you know that sister?

Song of Songs tells us: “You are altogether beautiful my love, there is no flaw in you” (4:7).

When I write the words, you are flawless, tears fill my eyes. They fill my eyes because so many women don’t know this. They don’t know that they are already flawless and beautiful without the makeup they put on in the morning. You are flawless because the cross made you flawless.

I came across the lyrics to the song “Flawless” by MercyMe and they pulled on my heartstrings:

“No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless
No matter the hurt
Or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless”

My journey with realizing my true beauty has been a long and grueling one. This song brought me back to a time during my teenage years when I would soak my pillow with tears at night because I didn’t believe I was beautiful. I was weighed down with the pressures of the world and the expectations that came from the makeup aisle. Basing my worth on my accomplishments and beauty in my appearance only led to a life of misery and discontent. Looking inward left me on shaky ground.

Joy fills my heart now as I soak in the words of this song. Today, I live in the freedom that I am beautiful and the Beloved of the King. I live in the freedom of knowing I don’t have to do anything to be beautiful, I know that I simply am beautiful just as he created me. I no longer spend excessive amounts of money at makeup stores or compare myself to others. I have joy in my life now that I have stopped striving. Having a personal relationship with Jesus changed everything about the way that I viewed myself and others.

There are still days when mall advertisements and scrolling through Instagram images leave my heart heavy. But when the enemy nudges me with thoughts that I am less than flawless, I turn my ask back to Jesus and ask him to remind me of how he sees me.

Despite our imperfections, in the eyes of the Beloved we are flawless.

My prayer for you is that you discover the freedom that comes with knowing that you are flawless in the eyes of God. Let it sink into your heart and live in the joy and peace that he has for you.
